video: harvest root crops

root crops, snowy garden

Well, that was different! Sometimes it’s a breeze to shoot my videos, and other times, Mother Nature throws everything she can at me just to remind me who’s in charge. I ended up shooting this video about harvesting root crops over the course of 6 days — all because of a freak snowstorm and bitterly cold temperatures.

But I prevailed and present for your viewing pleasure how to harvest root crops and store them so they stay nice and fresh during the fall and winter months. In this video, I harvested leeks and potatoes. That means I still have to pull up the carrots, parsnips, beets and rutabagas… as soon as all of the snow has melted, that is! But the method I demonstrated in the video for storing potatoes also applies to them.

I hope you’ll enjoy it. In the middle of the video, you’ll get to watch the snow falling and see the beauty of our winter wonderland, even though it’s only October.
