Lots of gardeners get discouraged when they try to grow broccoli or other cabbage family crops. Why? They are very popular with the bugs. And you have to admit it’s rather unappetizing to serve broccoli along with an assortment of bugs on a plate! Yuck.

Aphids, cabbage worms and slugs think broccoli plants are delicious. Being an organic gardener, I refuse to use chemicals to control those insects. That’s not the point of growing your own healthy produce, right? I know how easy it is to keep these bugs away and that’s why I created this video.

In it, you’ll learn how to make copper barriers to keep the slugs away. And you’ll also discover that you can use floating row cover or agricultural insect netting as a physical barrier.

If you’ve never used row covers because, you will be amazed at how well they work! I’ve always preferred using barriers to keep insects away, rather than using organic sprays. It’s just not necessary. If you take good care of them, they will last for many years.

I started using agricultural insect netting early last year and was astounded by how durable it is. The holes in it are so tiny, even aphids couldn’t squeeze in through them! I’ve never seen it for sale in garden centers but it’s available online at the above link.

Floating row cover is more readily available but I prefer insect netting since you can see through it so easily. That makes checking on the plants a breeze!

During this growing season, I’ll share lots of information about organic insect control because it’s so easy.

I hope you’ll enjoy this video on how to grow broccoli without insect problems!
