Video: Seed Starting Indoors Pt. 1

seed starting, beans

Well, today’s a momentous day because the first of my videos on seed starting is now available!

In this one, I cover why indoor seed starting is such a great skill to have, I list the vegetable crops that I typically start indoors, the wealth of information that you’ll find on seed packets, special considerations for starting certain types of seeds, and the basic supplies you’ll need.

Next week, I’ll go into more detail about seed starting supplies, go through you the steps for planting seeds, and discuss the care of your seedlings once they are up.

In the video, I mentioned a product called NoDampOff, which is milled sphagnum moss that inhibits the development of damping-off disease on seedlings. I’ve since learned that the product name has changed to SucSeed Organic Seed Starter. It is available from the Mosser Lee website at this link. I would still just sprinkle a light layer of it over your planted seed trays rather than use it as a seed-starting medium. I just wanted you to be aware of this.

Let the 2024 seed starting season begin!
