June 30 Column: Flowers for Season-Long Bloom

flowers, coneflowersFor this week’s garden column, I decided to focus on flowers. I mean, they’re pretty wonderful, aren’t they? You can read my column by going to today’s edition of The Spokesman-Review: Flowers for season-long bloom.

Why did I write about flowers? Well, aside from the obvious reasons (beauty, fragrance, attracting pollinators, etc.), I’ve been walking through my landscape and really focusing on the types of flowers that I’ve planted over the years so that there’s always plenty of color through the spring, summer and early fall.

In my column, I provided some ideas for spotting which months of the growing season might be a little “lacking” in one’s garden as well as sources for ideas of what would make great additions to our flower beds.

And just to give you even more ideas, I put together a slide show of some awesome flowers as part of this week’s “Everyone Can Grow a Garden” video. Take a look:

I hope it gave you some good ideas but, at the very least, I hope you enjoyed the beauty of the flowers I included within it! Have a great week.
