Lots of covers on the beds right now!

I’m so excited about this week’s video! It’s been hard to be patient. But I’ve been waiting for this point in the season to shoot a vegetable garden tour.

From here on out, I’ll shoot a monthly tour video so you can see how everything is progressing. You’ll see what we’re growing, hear about any challenges that pop up and learn great tips!

I’ve been shooting gardening videos for 11 years now. Why? I want YOU to be successful at growing your own food. But it doesn’t stop there. I want you to know how to grow other types of plants: shrubs, vines, flowers, trees and more. That’s been my goal for these videos and also for my website, SusansintheGarden.com.

Here’s what you can expect in this week’s vegetable garden tour:

  • How the 4 carrot varieties I planted are doing and how to thin the seedlings so they grow great.
  • An update on the bed of turnips, radishes, beets and pak choi.
  • How we’re protecting our “gutter peas” from quail. I also mention how those plants are struggling a bit. (Bill later added another drip irrigation line to deliver more water to them.)
  • Why we’re currently using either agricultural insect netting or row cover to protect the plants.
  • An update on the lettuce bed.
  • You’ll see the young beet and Swiss chard seedlings.
  • Learn one thing that went wrong with the bed containing some of my winter-sown vegetable crops.
  • Discover that I’m growing cauliflower for the first time in ages and why I decided to try again!
  • Get an update on how well the broccoli plants are doing (they look terrific).
  • See how the garlic bed is coming along and learn what to watch for on hardneck garlic plants.
  • Discover that we’re growing fava beans in the bed behind our greenhouse.
  • Get an update on the onions Bill planted recently.
  • See our packed greenhouse!

Yup, this video is absolutely packed with information and a few surprises!
