If you’ve been following me, you know I shoot a monthly video about how our vegetable garden is doing. It’s September now, right? That means it is officially time for my September Vegetable Garden Tour!

My goal for these video tours is to share the highs and lows, as well as helpful tips along the way. And I do have two “goofs” that I mention in it. I figure they are things everyone can learn from and shows that I’m not perfect! But the great news is that our vegetable garden is being really, really productive.

Ordinarily, you might expect to hear something like that, right? But the weather statistics are now out and this has been the hottest and driest summer in Spokane EVER. That’s not a statistic one likes to see, right? It isn’t hard to accept, though, because so much of our landscape is really dry.

How is our garden doing?

Let’s get back to the veggie garden. The best performers have been the beans, broccoli, summer squash, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Bill and I have been doing lots of harvesting and plenty of preserving. The latter includes making tomato sauce, salsa and ketchup. I’ve also frozen a lot of beans, Swiss chard and broccoli. I made cucumber relish. And, of course, we are eating like kings!

One of my goals this year has been to really ramp up my donations to our local food bank. I know a lot of folks in our community (and everywhere) could use some help. Getting to eat organically-grown, healthy produce is a great place to start. Toward that end, Bill and I planted 2 beds of bush beans and a bed of ‘Grey’ zucchini… strictly for donation purposes. I’m so glad all of the plants are producing well!

I always like to put in a plug for others to do the same. Gardeners are such generous people so I’m certain a lot of you out there are donating as well. Thank you.

Vegetable List and Report Card

Want to see the varieties of everything we’re growing? I have a list on my website, which includes seed sources. In addition, at the end of each season, I create a “Vegetable Report Card” in which I rate each crop’s performance. As you can imagine, it’s currently a work-in-progress as it’s too soon to rate a few of them. But keep an eye the report card here.

OK, here’s my September Vegetable Garden Tour video:

I hope you enjoyed the video. Did you know I now have over 630 gardening videos on my YouTube channel? All of them are designed to help you be successful at gardening! My videos come out every Thursday. There’s also a Vegetable Gardening Videos playlist on my channel. That way, you can pick and choose what you’d like to watch.
