Video: Make Your Own Free Holiday Decorations!
Happy holidays to you all! I always enjoy making my own holiday decorations without spending much, if any, money. I’ve been doing this successfully for years. And it just so happens that’s the topic of my newest video.
In this week’s video, I demonstrate how to make three delightful types of decorations:
- Swags for garden gates or doors
- Holiday wreaths
- Delightful front porch, deck or home containers
As I explain, you can make these wonderful items for free. How is that possible? Well, if you save ribbon and bows from past projects or gifts, that’s one way to do it. And if you have leftover holiday decorations such as berries, remember to reuse them, too.
But most importantly, take a stroll through your garden to see what might work well. In the video, I wander through our yard to harvest attractive branches, etc. for this year’s projects. These included spruce trees, bird’s nest spruce, Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. Additional items were red-twig dogwood branches, berry-laden crabapple branches, and sprigs of Oregon grape.
The nice thing about Oregon grape is that the leaves look a lot like holly. We’re not growing holly in our garden so this makes a perfect substitute!

Did this video give you some good ideas? I hope so because I think natural decor is just beautiful.
I have made a lot of videos on this very topic over the years. Here’s a link to the index of them on this website. And if you’d like to watch more of my videos on a wealth of gardening topics, here’s a link to my YouTube channel.
I hope you all enjoy a delightful holiday season. It’s truly a special time of year that I always look forward to.
