Video: August Vegetable Garden Tour

I’m a bit behind schedule this month but finally shot my August Vegetable Garden Tour video. And I’m releasing it a couple of days early since it’s all ready to go. Such a deal! You’ll recall that I missed a week due to Spokane’s horrible wildfires.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know the routine. I shoot a tour of our veggie garden during the growing season to you show you how everything is growing. And in those tours, I share it all! Crops that are doing great, ones that are struggling, and weird stuff.

Come to think of it, there’s been plenty of weird stuff this year. The biggest challenges have been the heat, smoke and lack of moisture. Our region of the country is in a severe drought and it’s both frightening and discouraging. I certainly hope we’ll get some decent precipitation this fall and winter but the forecasts don’t look promising.

What do I include in my vegetable garden tour?

1. The main routine is that I go from bed to bed and row by row. That way you won’t miss out on seeing the various crops we’re growing.
2. I’ll explain why we’ve chosen certain vegetable varieties. Many of them are repeats because if you find something that grows great and is productive, stick with it!
3. I will definitely explain why certain crops aren’t doing so great. Hint: you’ll see a LOT of leaf scorch, courtesy of our weather.
4. You’ll also hear about the winter squash problem I’m dealing with. That was the subject of last week’s video (Troubleshoot Problems in Your Garden). It’s important to understand how to approach problems and the resources available to you.
5. You will see how Bill’s and my potato-growing competition is coming along, too. Bill (grudgingly) thinks I will be the winner but hey, you never know! We’ll be sure to videotape the results, LOL.

My goal is to both show you how to grow veggies and highlight particularly great varieties. There’s no point in keeping this information to myself, right?
