Video: Spring Garden Tour

I have a tendency to focus my videos in our vegetable garden because growing food is my passion. But I also enjoy ornamental gardening… a LOT! So for this week’s video, I take you on a spring garden tour.
In it, I take you through our back garden where we’ve created some really nice landscape beds. You’ll get to see so many wonderful spring bulbs. (oh how I love those!) I’ll share the creative fence we use for the back of our rose garden. Then I’ll take you to our front yard, where you can see the large flower garden and our pollinator garden. You’ll even get a sneak peek at our little orchard.
This year, our spring garden is absolutely filled with flowering bulbs. These include tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinths and more. They have all been amazing this spring!
Our ornamental landscape is the result of the love Bill and I have for gardening. Bill is primarily interested in growing edible crops. He particularly excels in growing tomatoes, peppers, garlic and onions. I focus on all of the other types of veggie crops along with the ornamental plants. But Bill has been great about doing the tricky jobs like edging landscape beds and such. He also enjoys tending our orchard and this year, he has delved into the world of fruit tree grafting. That’s pretty darned cool! I’ll definitely need to see if he’ll help with a video on that very topic. (we shall see)
Fencing is one topic I didn’t think to include in today’s spring garden video. We live on 5 acres in a rural part of Spokane County (Wash.). Over the years, we’ve dealt with deer and moose issues. And we occasionally get raccoons, porcupines and a few rabbits. Out of all of those, the deer and moose are the most destructive. Many years ago, we erected a 7 1/2 foot tall fence that protects our orchard and immediate backyard. That has made a HUGE difference, let me tell you! And that’s why I can grow so many tulips and other bulbs in our protected backyard.
Before we get to the video, I wanted to let you know something cool. I plan to do similar videos in the summer, fall and winter because each season is so different. That will be a lot of fun and will give you an insight into what happens throughout the year.
