Weeds: The Bane of a Gardener’s Existence

When I conducted my reader survey recently, I saw a recurring response to my question about your biggest challenges: dealing with weeds! There were other challenges mentioned, too, but we’ll get to those another time.

Last year, I wrote a garden column on strategies for both dealing with weeds and preventing weeds from growing in the first place. Here is a link to it, in the June 24, 2017 edition of The Spokesman-Review: Best weeding tools are your fingers, but mulching and other things can help.

And, as you know, I paired my columns with videos last year, so here is the one I shot on the topic. It demonstrates what I do in my own garden:

Was that helpful to you? I hope so! As you can tell, I grow my garden organically because chemicals cause more problems than they solve. I know it would be quick and easy to use a herbicide or a pre-emergent, but I choose to go with more natural solutions. I hope you will, too. One by one, we can improve our environment!
