Update on Fava beans
The foliage is gray-green and you’d never know it was in the bean family by its appearance. The plants have been blooming for a couple of weeks now and the flowers are white and black, although the seed packet describes them as white and dark purple. Weird, huh? The plants are nearly 3 feet tall and don’t require any support, which is nice. They’re supposed to reach a height of 4 feet. The variety I’m growing is ‘Long Pod’ and the seeds came from Ed Hume Seeds.
In case you’re wondering why I’m growing Fava beans, it’s for 2 reasons:
1) Because I can. ;o)
2) Last summer, my sister harvested some Fava beans from her garden and made a type of dip with them that was similar to hummus. It was absolutely delicious so I decided to give them a go. And besides, it’s always fun to grow something new, right?
