This year’s holiday wreath

holiday wreath

As a follow-up to my last post, I wanted to show you how this year’s wreath turned out. I think I need to tweak the bow a bit but otherwise am happy with how it turned out.

I started with a grapevine wreath, then poked in short branches of pine, spruce and fir to make a nice, green base. Then I added in some cedar because I just love the delicate, fernlike branches. I also put in some cuttings from one of my rhododendrons since they have such lovely evergreen leaves.

Then I departed from the natural materials and made a double bow, using holiday ribbons from Michael’s (on sale for 50% off right now) and some fake red beautyberries as nice accents. I would prefer to use natural berries but very few are firm enough to last well through the holidays, so I make this concession.

And last but not least, I picked up the color of the sparkly lime-green ribbon by adding in some sparkly green pinecone picks, also from Michael’s, for more accents.

So you can see that it’s pretty simple to make your own wreath. Cost-wise, I suppose I just have about $8.00 into it but I really got to make it just the way I wanted. And I had a great visit with my friends while putting mine together. Definitely a fun afternoon project!
