August 5 column: Raised-bed garden
Here is a link to my column in today’s edition of The Spokesman-Review: Elevate the quality of your garden. It is a profile of Bill and Ann Windham who have created a beautiful raised-bed garden at their home in Colbert.
As I explained in the article, Ann came to my talk on raised-bed gardening which was part of the last year’s WSU/Spokane County Master Gardeners’ “Cabin Fever Garden Symposium.” Last summer, she emailed me to let me know how well their garden did. She graciously invited me to come see their garden. It’s a real beauty! The photos above show what their garden looks like. Didn’t they do a great job? Remember that you can click on the photos to see more detailed images.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading about the Windhams’ garden and consider trying raised-bed gardening for yourself. I usually teach at least one class on it per year. None are on the schedule yet but keep an eye on the garden calendar (both on this blog and in The Spokesman-Review’s Sunday Today section) for an announcement of upcoming classes.
