March 27 column: Orchids

Orchids, Paphiopedilum
Here is a link to my column in today’s edition of The Spokesman-Review: Paphiopedilums hard to say but great to see. Paphiopedilums are better known as lady’s slipper orchids and they are so gorgeous! The column gives cultural information for growing them.

You can see “Paphs” and many other types of orchids at The Spokane Orchid Society’s annual Orchid Show & Sale. It is next weekend (Apr. 2 and 3) at the Southside Senior Center, 3151 E. 27th, which is at the corner of 27th and Ray. The show hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $2 per person although children 16 and under will be admitted free. The show is a fun event to go to, especially this early in the season when there’s not much to see in our gardens.
