Sept. 26 column: Spring-flowering bulbs
Here is a link to my column in today’s edition of The Spokesman-Review: Want to ensure a spring bloom? Work starts now. As you can guess by the headline, it is about planting spring-flowering bulbs. With our long winters, there is nothing quite so crucial as having early bloomers in our gardens. After all, it’s our reward for enduring all those months of not getting to putter around in the garden, right?
If you haven’t taken a look at some of the specialty bulbs in mail-order catalogs lately, you might want to consider it. There are so many amazing, perky, colorful bulbs available in all sorts of sizes and flower shapes. They make a wonderful addition to the spring landscape.
Since these spring-flowering bulbs need to be planted in the fall, now is the time to pick some up at a local garden center or online and get them into the soil before the ground freezes.
