Annuals – Spider Flower
I’ve just spent a delightful afternoon showing our visitors how beautiful Manito Park is. The formal Duncan Gardens is looking spectacular right now so be sure to visit it before we get a killing frost.
This flower is one of my all-time favorites. Even though it’s an annual, Spider Flower is well worth saving a spot in your garden for. Its botanical name is Cleome spinosa and as you can see by the close-up, the plant has earned its common and botanical names.
It can grow from 3 to 6 feet tall so be sure to plant it in the back of a bed, but definitely where it will stand out. The flower colors range from white to pink, purple and magenta and really are stunning, particularly when planted in a large grouping. The plants prefer full sun and soil that is bit on the drier side.
